The Fixing Genie
The Web/Software Developer In Traning

02.

Who am I? Well my name is D’Arc, and I really tend to be whoever I need to be. Someone asks me if I know how to do something, I might know what it is, but not know how to use it or make it work. But give me the night to look into it, and I should have the basics down by morning.

I took Automotive Mechanics at Cambrian College in Sudbury, from ’03 to ’05, and worked at The Auto Lab during the last semester there until Fall of ’06. At this point I took an adventure and moved to Ottawa, and took what came to my door. Fortunatly, it was Bell ExressVu who came to my door. Chatted with him for a bit, and then a Resume was passed and I had to be at work the next day. Didn’t even have to leave my house, and was hired in Pijamas, and my room mate was jelous.

Working with Bell ExpressVu gave me plenty of knowledge in Satellite Installation, as well as cable running. Not to mention the annoying part of fishing the cable through walls, definitely didn’t like that part of it. Learned the systems, the hardware, and how easy it is to do with the right tools. Of course every job needs the knowledge from the previous, so my mechanics came into effect when the trucks needed some repairs. So I worked there till the end of ’07.

At this point I kindove wasn’t sure where I was going to work next, so I kindove searched for the first thing that came my way. I had a friend who was working for a startup company called Phreesia. I went in for an interview, and was called back the following week with a contract offer. They wanted to make sure I knew my networking, and computer skills before I was hired on fully. One month later, I was full time. Technical Support for basic networking and wireless issues, with some occasional server troubleshooting. Walking through hardware installation, and making sure the system was fully operational.

Come August of that year, ’08 at this point, I was offered a position in Quality Assurance for the company. I accepted the offer of course, I figured I would gain more experience in the internal workings of the computer programming, as well as the sub systems of the ISO layers. In this position, I began getting some training in Test Cases, Building Scenarios, and finding the ways to reproduce issues that were happening in the field.

As the position was going well, I wanted to learn more on the base programming of the software. I took it upon myself to ask the questions to get the knowledge I was looking for. I was told to beggin playing with a programming language called Python. I was given some tasks to make small programs with basic math computing, as well as some reading material with questions at the end.

During this employment, I was asked by someone from the GSDA to update their site. I had touched on HTML before, and asked friends in the field some questions, which brough me into the websites. So during my off time I built an idea for the GSDA site, I sent the test link to some of the members of the GSDA. They were all pleased with the concept, and I published it. At this point I maintain it, and keep it up to date with events, and competition details.

As of recently I am currently un-employed and trying to figure out what I am going to do next. My issues are the lack of certifications, but I have experience. So I either need to go and write my Automotive Tests, where I am looking at 4 tests. Aprrenticeships years 1, 2, 3 and ASE test. Or Comuter Technician, were I would need to get some A+, and depending on the requirements, Network +, CCNA, Microsoft Certified in multiple areas.

And I definitely know I haven’t gotten Web Developing down, it is more of something I do in my spare time.

Other than that, I just figure things out on my own. Something breaks, take it apart, see how the insides work, fix it if possible. Usually it is something small, that I would have had to pay hundreds of dollars to fix, or replace.

Maybe I’ll throw my resume up on here or something, don’t know yet. But thats it, Thats me.
